K. Alexander Dastgheib, MD
As a corneal specialist, Dr. Alex has performed thousands of LASIK procedures. Dr. Alex, fluent in French, Farsi and conversational in German, is a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the International Society of Refractive Surgery and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology. In 2000, Duke University Eye Center established the K. Alexander Dastgheib, M.D., Annual Eye Surgery Award to recognize the senior resident demonstrating excellence in eye surgery as well as judgment. Robert Guss, MD
A member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, Dr. Guss has also held several hospital medical staff appointments at Desert Hospital in Palm Springs and has served as an investigator for intraocular lens clinical studies. James J. Kao, MD
A native of Scarsdale, New York, Dr. Kao earned his undergraduate degree at Cornell University and a master’s degree in public health from George Washington University. He then pursued medical training, first completing a doctorate of osteopathic medicine at Western University College of Osteopathic Medicine in California, and then a medical degree from International University of Health Sciences in Florida. Dr. Kao went on to serve a residency in ophthalmology at Michigan State University and specialty training through a fellowship in cornea, anterior segment and refractive surgery at the University of Cincinnati in Ohio. Before joining LASIK Today, Dr. Kao provided ophthalmology services for children and adults at various practices in Michigan, Ohio and California. He also conducted numerous research and quality control studies related to vision care, and participated in research and development efforts. He has several patents pending for both surgical instruments and medical devices related to ophthalmology. In addition to LASIK surgery, Dr. Kao is skilled at performing Verisyse, PRK, CK, Visian ICL, Intacs and other vision care procedures. In the community, Dr. Kao is actively involved as a volunteer with many charitable organizations, including the Flying Samaritans; the Washington Free Clinic; Meals on Wheels; Loaves & Fishes; and the American Red Cross. He received the 2005 Bravo Award for Bravery from the American Red Cross. Dr. Kao is fluent in English, Mandarin Chinese and Spanish, and can understand Cantonese, Vietnamese and Japanese. Angus L. MacDonald, MD
A dual citizen of both Canada and the United States, Dr. MacDonald received his undergraduate degrees from McGill and Acadia Universities and his medical degree from University of Western Ontario. He completed an ophthalmology residency at Vancouver Hospital in British Columbia and pursued additional training for pediatric ophthalmology at the renowned The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto where he advanced his skills in treating children. In addition, Dr. MacDonald has continually updated his knowledge of advanced vision care techniques, attending the latest professional seminars and medical education courses. Since the early 1970s, Dr. MacDonald has enjoyed private practice as an ophthalmologist and cataract surgeon, and in 1999, he became a certified LASIK surgeon. He is one of the few surgeons certified in several different types of LASIK excimer lasers, including the CustomVue® VISX STAR S4; Bausch & Lomb Technolas 217z; Lasersight; Nidek; and Meditech. A fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada, Dr. MacDonald is also a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and has been published in numerous professional journals. |
